Trexx
Feb 14, 1967 – May 7, 2002
When folks drove up here to the ranch, more often than not, as they came through the gate, they were met by a stiff old horse who acted like he owned the place. In a way, he did...or our hearts, anyways. Trexx was our mascot. He had the full run of the ranch and it was his job to make certain everyone was in their proper place. A real tribute to the arabian horse breed, he was kind, smart, and family oriented. Recently someone said they thought he was probably senile since he had started acting like a cat who wanted his back scratched!
Trexx spent most of his life with a young girl whom he loved very much and together they won a roomful of ribbons at Horse Shows and Gymkhanas. When she went off to college her folks gave him to a neighbor so he would not be lonely. Unfortunately, he was passed around from owner to owner for the next few years but finally he was given to us. We immediately fell in love with him. In the time we all had with him, we came to think of him as the lovable grouch who baby-sat the new colts and who taught all the kids who were very scared how to ride. I believe he was happy with us and that he loved us as much as we loved him.
He was already an awfully old horse when we met him, and several times during his many years here he got so sick we didn’t know if he'd make it or not, but just as I'd start to think “Well this must be the end”, he'd make a miraculous
recovery and be better than ever. We used to call him “the energizer bunny”. Up until the last year of his life he was still taking little kids to win Barrel Racing Ribbons at the San Martin Horseman's Gymkhanas.
Trexx managed to always be lively around his kids, but on May 7, 2002, after everyone went home, and with his
family by his side petting him and telling him they loved him, amazingly old age finally got the best of our little Energizer Bunny and
Trexx passed away peacefully.
HE WAS 35 YEARS OLD!
